Bookbinding has a rich history that dates back to ancient times, evolving from simple methods like sewing leaves together to more complex techniques used in the Middle Ages and beyond. The industrial revolution in the 19th century introduced mechanization, allowing for faster and cheaper production of books, which significantly changed the bookbinding landscape.

The majority of my work employs open spine binding techniques where the book block is exposed. I can source a variety of papers including art papers and card stock suitable for ink and watercolours as well as for note and journal writing. I have a large collection of locally sourced hides, fabrics and printed papers collected over many years to make covers with.

In addition to making blank books intended for notes and journaling, I also enjoy working with rare and unusual texts. Such undertakings typically take between 6-12 months.

Whilst I am happy to accept commissions, I can only take on a few projects each year due to the time involved in making custom pieces.
